Lana'i Cookbook now available!
Lana’i’s Melting Pot is a collection of over 140 recipes from all over our community that aims to capture traditional island favorites as well as some of the Asian fusion and Mainland influenced culinary treats that are cooking up in Lana’i kitchens every day of the week. Expanding our reach into the art of cooking just seemed like a logical idea...and a fun one, too!
All proceeds from Lana’i’s Melting Pot go directly to support Art Center activities to help
offset recent massive funding cutbacks.

Enjoy the art of cooking Lana’i-style and help a worthy cause at the same time! Only $18 each!
To get your copy, stop by the Art Center gallery Monday - Saturday between 12 and 4! Also available at the Mike Carroll Gallery and Gifts With Aloha!

This award-winning multi-disciplinary, month-long project, now in its 5th year, is supported by the Hawaii State Foundation on Art & Culture and the National Endowment for the Arts. It preserves both the local culture and living history of Lana‘i by offering students grades 6-12 the choice of learning storytelling, a visual art medium of their choice, or both. Student choices have run the gamut: art & storytelling, art discipline only, storytelling only, two art disciplines. Click on the link below for details on this amazing project, pictures and more!

Thanks to everyone who joined us On Saturday, May 9 at 1 pm for a special afternoon of amazing paintings and photographs by our young artists plus a touching, funny, moving set of student performances that not only included personal experience tales but pieces that capture the history of the island of Lana'i with Oral History stories performed; sources include Ernest Sampson Richardson, Kumu Hula Elaine Kauwenaiole Kaopuiki and a Staged Reading of an Oral History by Mary Cockett Kalawaia on the Founding of Lanai!

The event also included the student's staging coach Yukie Shiroma and her dance partner Ben Moffat, in a stunning performance of the winner of the Hawai'i State Dance Council's Choreographic Award in 1992, the signature piece of Monkey Waterfall, a Honolulu-based dance theatre company. This piece took our breath away. Click on the image to the left to see photos!

The Lana'i school has several exterior walls which have been slated for mural sites for some time with no funding or coordination to get the work done. This project was the Art Center's response. With the help of over 300 students in the Elementary school five community paintings now brighten the campus with color and inspiration. This visual art presentation will help guide students, for years to come, in transitions of growing. Funded in the amount of $2,600 by a generous grant from the Lana'i Community Benefit Fund and a private Lana'i donorThe Off-Island Art Day project takes Lana'i students to Honolulu for a full day of art experiences. Winners are selected through an Art Contest run in conjunction with Lana'i High and Elementary. The assignment was to create a work of art in any medium (painting, ceramics, drawing, etc.) that depicted one of their favorite people, places on Lana’i or one of their favorite things to do on Lana’i. 5 winners, ranging from 4th to 11th grade traveled to Honolulu and enjoyed behind-the-scenes curator tours of The Hawaii State Art Museum and The Honolulu Academy of Arts, where they met two professional artists in Honolulu, plus received $25 in FREE Art Supplies from the Art Center! Two runner-up prizes recieved $50 in art supplies from the Lana’i Art Center art supply section in the gallery!
Funded for $2000+ from generous grants from The Royal Lana'i Yacht Club, The Mike Carroll Gallery, Lana'i Art Center founding artist John Wullbrandt and the V. Larsen Gallerie!
