Rachel is back with a timely and fun painting workshop. Use your imagination to decorate a wine glass. These make great gifts and are fun and easy to make. Only a limited number of glasses are available so your are welcome to bring your own.
And now for something completely different – skull decorating! Thanks to the talents of local artist Rachel Lauter, we are able to present an activity reminiscent of the artwork often seen at Dia del Muertos. You will get the opportunity to glorify one of the skulls of our plentiful residents, axis deer! We will supply materials such as paint, sequins, and ribbons. You supply the magic! The cost is only $20 for this unique opportunity, skull included. This will take place at our big project table inside the Art Center gallery. There is limited seating so advanced reservations are highly recommended. You can drop by the Art Center for inspiration and to sign up. See you there!

Take a field trip and make some art!
LHES teacher and amateur artist Lisa Galloway will organize and help take photos, draw “en plein air” (outside) and explore the drawing media and subjects found there. Based on participants’ wishes, and weather, we’ll carpool to a different location each time we meet – desert, forest, beach and/or the human-made environment. Lisa will guide activities that reduce the stress and challenges of drawing, and increase your fun and confidence!
Participants must be 14 years or older. Class size will be no more than ten people!
Each session will meet at 3pm at the high school art room. Sessions will be every Sunday in June (the 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th).
This is a non-profit event, so the fees will provide participants with the drawing materials they need, and a chance to matt, mount and/or frame their best artworks for exhibit at the LAC gallery. Participants must have their own camera, and a sketchbook is recommended.
$15 per session for LAC members, $25 per session for non-LAC members
Full payment is due no later than June 4th. To sign up please go here.

Most people know the Art Center as the gallery where local artists display and sell their art. You may not realize that our art instructor Ms. Sagawa also provides learning and opportunities for students at LHES. This is just a small sampling of student art from this past winter session. Besides the fact the arts encourage joyful, active learning, the arts help us to understand and express abstract concepts, and stimulates higher level thinking. Please help support the Arts!
